Golfing for a Reason

The 4th annual Golfing for a Reason tournament doubled last year's proceeds, raising $12,000 to benefit the Aiding Angels Foundation Aug. 27 at the Highlands Golf Course.

Fighting cancer is difficult enough, but living with it is even tougher - and that's where the Aiding Angels Foundation steps in.

This local non-profit organization offers free, professional housecleaning to improve the lives of women, men and children undergoing treatment for any type of cancer.

To support this cause, Maid to Please hosted the tournament. All funds contributed to Aiding Angels stay in Lincoln and are used directly to benefit local residents during the toughest battle of their lives.

Brenda Schwery, president of Maid to Please, founded the Aiding Angels Foundation this year.

"We clean for free for anyone going through cancer treatment," Schwery said. "It is not financially need-based or cancer specific. We clean for women, men and children. All money raised stays in Lincoln."

Last year's tournament generated over $6,000 to help another charity, the Cleaning for a Reason Foundation, continue its mission. Schwery said she used to hold the golf tournament to benefit the Cleaning for a Reason Foundation, but through that foundation the cleanings were only offered to women.

"I have had such huge requests to help women, men and children, so I formed the Aiding Angels Foundation," she said.

Twenty-three teams participated in the four-person scramble tournament. Sponsors offered a putting contest and prize drawings. A dinner and dance followed the tournament.

Local sponsors included Union Bank, Star Digital Print, Infinity Promotions, Matt and Lynne Herman, Jim and Angie Schueth, ServiceMaster of Lancaster County, Wolfe Snowden Law Office, Capital Restoration and Southeast Nebraska Cancer Center.
