In Memoriam

John Hurd (1947-2018)

We will remember John for his leadership at Wolfe Snowden as a managing partner and a mentor to lawyers. John and Jack G. Wolfe together founded our firm in 1977. For forty years, John exemplified excellence in representing his clients with skill, sensitivity and patience.

John was born and raised in Lincoln, Nebraska and graduated from Lincoln Southeast High School in 1965. He graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1969 with a Bachelors of Arts degree.  He earned his Juris Doctorate from the University of Nebraska College of Law in 1973, after which he worked at the Lancaster Attorney’s Office for four years.  John also served in the U.S. Army Reserves.

John was known and consulted throughout the State of Nebraska for his expertise in wills and estates, real estate transactions and agricultural law. He was a fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel, a member of the Nebraska State Bar Association Real Estate, Probate, and Trust Law Sections and the Lincoln Estate Planning Council. John was generous with his time and talent in seeing that all those in need were taken care of when they came to him for legal help.

John was involved in the Lincoln community, serving as an usher for First Plymouth Church for 30 years, serving on the Board for Cedars Home for Children Foundation, the City of Lincoln Personnel Board, and the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Merit Commission.

Above all, John was also devoted to his family and showered his former wife, three children, and six grandchildren with love, attention, and affection. We will always remember John as more than a colleague, but a friend and a wonderful human being.
